Postponed: Global Summit on Intellectual Property and Access to Medicines

The 2020 summit will now take place at a later date, at a time when we are assured that international travel and events can take place safely.

The second Global Summit on Intellectual Property and Access to Medicines (GSIPA2M) was due to take place 2-4 June 2020 in Marrakesh, Morocco. In line with advice from the World Health Organization (WHO), and other international and national guidelines with regards to COVID-19, we have taken the necessary step to postpone the event.

We would like to assure you that the summit is pushed back, not cancelled.
The event will still take place in Marrakesh. If you are on our guest-list and have already received an invite from us, you will be updated as soon as we have further details.

If you would like to be added to the invite list please contact Detrich Peeler: [email protected]

HIV response and COVID-19

We believe the COVID-19 response can benefit from the experiences of HIV response. We are committed to sharing what we’ve learned as a global community of treatment and human rights activists, ensuring the same mistakes aren’t repeated, and instead that the response to this pandemic benefits from hindsight, as well as the significant successes achieved.

  • We know that there are concerns around whether people living with HIV, TB, Hepatitis C or other diseases are more at risk from the coronavirus. ITPC has published personal and community guidance in relation to COVID-19, which we will endeavour to keep updated. This is available online in English, French, Russian and Spanish.
  • We will keep the pressure on governments and corporations, to insist that intellectual property (IP) barriers do not prevent or delay access to any COVID-19 treatments, once proven effective. We will continue to share technical expertise and the experiences of civil society. We expect COVID-19 to feature high on the agenda of AIDS 2020: Virtual (6-10 July) which we will be taking part in.
  • All updates will be published in the news section of the ITPC and Make Medicines Affordable websites, and via Facebook and Twitter.
