• The University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation updated its forecast for COVID-19 deaths in the US, due to rising infections and poor compliance with indoor masking – which are likely to kill 11,000 more people by November, with an estimated death toll of 230,822. • Mexico reports a record-breaking 8,458 daily cases. Source

• The US FDA announces that it is redeploying staff and adding computer and other technical resources to accelerate an effort to grant full approval for the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine as rapidly as possible. The agency has faced increasing pressure to fully approve the vaccine, because it could encourage people who are reluctant to be inoculated with an experimental vaccine, and full approval could facilitate vaccine mandates.
