• The US reports one million coronavirus cases over the first five days of December. Source
• Pfizer, Serum Institute of India (SII) and Bharat Biotech International Limited apply for EUA for the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine; although India’s drug regulations do not have provisions for issuing EUA, CDSCO granted permission for use of remdesivir and favipiravir in June of 2020. It may take up to 90 days for an EUA application to be granted by India’s DCGI. Source
• Coronavirus deaths in Italy exceed 60,000 – the world’s sixth highest, as it surpasses 1.7 million cases. Source
• Turkey and Brazil – both facing surging infection rates – announce plans to use Sinovac’s coronavirus vaccine, Coronavac – which is currently in phase III. Turkey’s Health Minister Fahrettin Koca stated that early use approval for the vaccine, which will arrive in the country in mid-December, will be granted based on early trial results and confirmation of the vaccine’s safety and efficacy from national laboratories.
