Launch of Operation Warp Speed (OWS), a US $10 billion public-private partnership, to develop, manufacture and distribute COVID-19 vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics at an “unprecedented pace” ; it aims to have substantial quantities of a safe and effective vaccine available for Americans by January 2021. Moncef Slaoui, a venture capitalist and former Chairman of Global Research and Development and Chairman of Global Vaccines at GlaxoSmithKline, is appointed as chief advisor. General Gustave F. Perna, who oversees the global supply chain for the U.S. Army is appointed as chief operating officer. The announcement included a “commitment to affordability,” which states that “As a condition of receiving support from OWS, companies will provide a donated allocation of countermeasures developed, including an eventual vaccine.” Source 1,2,3
